They look gorgeous as a garnish – but rose petals are far more than just decorative ingredient. They make for a flavourful addition to cakes and bakes, drinks and drizzles, breakfasts, butters…and even savoury dishes!
Rose offers a sweet aroma and delicate floral hint, with the petals pairing beautifully with the flavours of saffron, honey, dried apricots, cardamom and coffee.
Sprinkle over biscuits and fold into bakes (try them in our gorgeous Mother’s Day Florentine recipe!), or infuse in a simple sugar syrup for drizzling over summer fruits like strawberries and raspberries.
Not just for desserts, why not start the day with a crimson-pink granola of rose petals, cranberry, almond and honey, or whip into soft butter for an indulgent spread on muffins, crackers and biscuits.
A gorgeous addition to drinks, stir into a gin cocktail with the clean flavours of apple and cucumber, or muddle into lemonade for an easy elevation.
The flavour of rose petals is also surprisingly brilliant in a savoury context. Commonly used in Middle Eastern and North African cuisine, they’re are a key ingredient in our Ras el Hanout – a heady mix of spices including Black Pepper, Ginger, Smoked Paprika and Cardamom. This spicy, aromatic blend is perfect for chicken and lamb tagines, or as a dry rub for meat.
